Flaccid Mojo
Bjorn and Aaron from Black Dice let their sandbox spill into the live realm, a zone of total vibe and discovery. Their relentless, infectious momentum is a launch pad for first-time moves and real-time psychedelic collage, matched and wrapped in the rapid fire technicolor visuals of Dice vid wiz Danny Perez.
Ryan Sawyer
Ryan Sawyer
Ryan Sawyer (b.1976) born in San Antonio TX started playing drums at the age of 11. Learning his craft throughout an early exposure to not only rock and jazz but the colloquial conjunto, zydeco, and punk rock musics of his home town. When he was 19 he recorded the now highly influential first record with At The Drive-In. Sawyer moved to New York in 1997 to pursue further his interest in improvised music. Sawyer has been leading a balanced life between composed and improvised performance. He has supported and collaborated with such diverse names as Rhys Chatham, Charles Gayle, Tv on the Radio, Boredoms, Thurston Moore, Nik Zinner, Kid Millions, Fiery Furnaces, Trevor Dunn, Gang Gang Dance, Mekons, Scarlet Johansson, to name a few. While this list is always growing Sawyer has been cultivating a tight group of peers to deepen collaborative possibilities with.

Formal bands have been a linchpin to Sawyer's integration of musical ideas. Stars Like Fleas, Tall Firs, Glass Rock, Family Dynamics, and Eye Contact, are some of the bands Ryan has been a key member in over the years. One of the more involved collaborations Sawyer has been working on is Lone Wolf & Cub; a project with his partner Suzanne Rogaleski. They have performed at Deitch Projectsk, Socrates Sculpture Garden, been twice asked to Ox-Bow artist residency and have taught at Cal Arts.

On June 22nd Gang Gang Dance mark their return with the release of Kazuashita: their new full length record. A modern record made in its time but still serving as a followup to 2011’s universally acclaimed Eye Contact.
With Brian DeGraw self producing, the album was recorded with founding members Lizzi Bougatsos and Josh Diamond in whatever space would play host to them. They were joined by a number of collaborators including drummer / percussionist Ryan Sawyer and Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink / Lansing Dreiden) who was enlisted for additional production and the mixing of the album.
With their first shows hosted at the Deitch Project & AFA Galleries in the early 2000s, to their early days sharing stages with Animal Collective & Black Dice, to performances at the Whitney Biennial, Pitti Umo in Milan, Primavera or Coachella: their two decade career has never acknowledged a barrier between the art and music worlds. They’ve collaborated with the likes of Dash Snow & Nate Lowman, Tinchy Stryder and the Boredoms, they’ve taken Ariel Pink on one tour only to then take Total Freedom, Venus X and Hood By Air founder Shane Oliver on the next, and somehow charted it across the seven releases to their credit.
